3 campsites near Brisbane to take the dirt bike

There’s only one thing better than spending your Saturday exploring some great dirt bike tracks in South East Queensland, and that’s riding into camp, having a few drinks and a good feed, then doing it all again on Sunday.  That’s why we’ve created a list of the top 3 spots in QLD to camp with your trail bike.

1. Double Island Point / Noosa North Shore

Wait, riding on the beach? Really? This one was a little controversial around the office, but I think it's very worthy of the list.  Double Island Point is one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in the country, and you're able to camp right in the sand dunes, every sunset looks like you're in a Corona ad.

You have 30+ K's of beach to explore on the bike and some great landmarks like Rainbow beach, Carlo Sand Blow and Double Island Point.  The hard sand is just like riding on the highway and there's plenty of it, but remember - road rules apply on the beach.

 2. Mount Mee

Mt Mee Recreation area is the closest site to Brisbane on the list, just 40 minutes drive from the city.  There are plenty of fire trails for the beginner, and some great hill climbs and goat trails for the experienced rider.  You have 2 camp sites to choose from in the national park, the open grassy archer camping area, or the slightly more secluded bush sites at Neurum Creek Camping Area.  Both sites are technically 4x4 access only, but it's not uncommon to see a car thats braved the short dirt track in to Archer campground.

Both campsites have basic facilities and allow fires (you'll need them here in winter) and there is a great mix of trails to test all level of rider.

 3. Gap Creek Motocross Park

Gap Creek Moto Park is a nice, scenic 1.5 hour drive from Brisbane and is one of the best purpose built dirt bike parks with on site camping.  There are 3 kids tracks and 3 adult tracks which means everyone will find something that suits them, from the natural terrain track for beginners, right through to the seriously hardcore MX2 track for the most advanced riders.

Aside from the excellent purpose built tracks, it's nice to ride somewhere you don't have to worry about a 4x4 pulling out without looking, or the neighbors calling in a noise complaint.

Camping is great with powered and un powered sites right next to the tracks.  All sites have fire rings and there are showers and toilets on site.  The on site shop sells basic spare parts all the snacks you'll need around the campfire.
